June Lake Theater Festival Returns for a 4th Year to the Loop

The free two-day family festival, scheduled for July 23rd and 24th and produced by the June Lake Loop Performing Arts Association, will feature live music and comedy.

June Lake, CA – June 25, 2021 – Declaring “Let’s give them something to laugh about!”, the June Lake Loop Performing Arts Association (JLLOOPPAA) has announced the fourth annual June Lake Theater Festival. The free event is scheduled over two evenings – July 23rd & 24th – and will take place in the beautiful setting of Gull Lake Park.

According to festival director Rachel Lockhart, this year’s event is scaled back in scope from previous years as the region emerges from COVID restrictions. “It’s been such a challenging year for everyone, including businesses, students, artists, parents and families,” stated Lockhart, also a member of the JLLOOPPAA Board. “There has been tremendous support from the community to produce even a scaled-down event to begin a recovery toward some sense of normalcy.”

The focus of the 2021 festival is improv, musical, and standup comedy acts in the park, featuring comedians Sam Oh, Lady Peter, Martin Morrow, as well as the Femmedy Trio and the Shell Company comedy acts. The Storytellers, a progressive bluegrass band from Los Angeles, and the Mountain Sky Trio band will be providing live musical performances throughout the weekend.

All five comedy acts will be performing a ticketed, late night, 21+ show at the T-Bar Social Club on Saturday.

“This free two-day event is family-friendly and promises a glorious weekend of fun and hilarity,” said Lockhart. “It’s time for us to come together to laugh and celebrate. Residents and visitors are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs, umbrellas and picnic lunches, even though beverages and food will be available for purchase at the event, as well as through our merchants in the loop.”

In previous years, the Theater Festival has featured short plays written, directed and performed by kids and professionals in conjunction with the Kid’s Theater Camps. COVID restrictions kept the camps from operating this season.

The Theater Festival is one of three major events produced by the JLLOOPPAA, the others being the popular the Fall June Lake Jam Fest and the Mountain Music Festival, currently on hiatus. According to Janet Hunt, Executive Director of JLLOOPPAA and founder of the June Lake Jam Fest, the community will benefit from the recently-invigorated organization.

“Our newly assembled Board of Directors and organization team is committed to a plan of action that will bring measurable and meaningful benefit to the arts scene in June Lake, beginning with this festival,” stated Hunt. “Our efforts will raise needed funds for arts and music education, and to sponsor events that enliven and enrich our community and its economy.”
